A Saudi man murdered his elder brother by fork while asleep at a hotel because he is mentally ill and is gripped by the devil, a newspaper in the Gulf Kingdom said on Thursday, adding that the family intends to ask court to release him.

Police were told by the family that the incident began when the younger man, in his 20s, told his elder brother that he wanted to live on his own, prompting the elder brother to rent two linked suites at a nearby hotel so they can be close to each other.

Sabq daily quoted family members as saying the elder brother took that decision because he wanted to look after his mentally ill brother.

“While the elder brother was asleep in his suite, his younger brother sneaked into the room and stabbed him with a fork, killing him instantly,” the paper said.

“Police arrested the younger brother after hotel employees called them when they saw him walking calmly out of the hotel with blood stained clothes…the family said it had decided to forgive the younger brother on the grounds he is psychologically ill and is gripped by the devil…the family also said it would ask court to release him quickly.”
