New shoes expose drug smuggler

An Egyptian chef at a five star hotel in Kuwait was arrested at the airport as he tried to smuggle nearly one KG of hashish concealed inside his new shoes.

The shoes wore by the Egyptian upon his return from Cairo looked so “new” that suspicious customs men at Kuwait airport decided to check them.

“His shoes looked very new as if he put them on during flight….when airport customs authorities searched them, they found nearly one kg of hashish and 500 tramadol pills,” the Arabic language daily Alanba said on Monday.

It said the unnamed cook would stand trial and could be sentenced to death in line with existing laws.
