A Saudi court sentenced a former official of the Gulf Kingdom’s feared Islamic police to 50 lashes for making a false forgery report against one of his juniors while in office.

The former director of the Riyadh office of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice had accused an employee at his office of forging a sick leave, causing his sacking years ago.

This year, a court found the employee innocent and convicted the former Commission official of making false accusations.

“A court in Riyadh has summoned that former official to carry out its sentence involving lashing him 50 times on those charges,” the Arabic language daily Alhayat said.
