A Saudi man who spent many years saving money to pay dowry for his bride got the shock of his life when the dowry was stolen as he headed for his bride to pay.

But his worry quickly turned into delight when the bride’s father asked him to pay only one Saudi riyal.

The unnamed man had just happily withdrawn the dowry money from his saving account at the bank in the central town of Ramah and drove straight to the house of his bride, who is from the same Saudi tribe.

On his way, he had a minor car accident that drew a large number of people, one of whom apparently used the pandemonium and stole the dowry, the money paid by bridegrooms to their brides in line with Islamic law.

“He went to his bride’s house upset and the bride’s father noticed this.

“The groom later told him that he has to postpone the wedding,” Sabq daily said.

“The groom started to make excuses but after he was pressed by the bride’s father, he told him the truth.

“To his surprise, the bride’s father told him there will be no delay in the wedding and that he would accept a SR1 as dowry.

“The whole tribe admired the man’s decision and the wedding was completed.”
