Saudi resort shut over mixed-gender party

Saudi Arabia's Islamic police shut down a beach resort after raiding the place and arresting more than 50 men and women involved in a party.

Most of those arrested were Arab expatriates while the resort manager managed to flee Saudi Arabia just after the raid, 'Sabq' newspaper said.

It said members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, Saudi Arabia’s most influential law-enforcing authority, stormed the resort in the Western Red Sea port of Jeddah following a tip off.

“Some of the women arrested were drunk. Police found a large quantity of liquor and other banned items in the resort,” the paper said, adding that the resort was shut down permanently and its owners would be prosecuted.
