Saudi wanted for torturing fox

Saudi police are searching for a local man filmed torturing a fox after he accused the animal of killing his mother’s chickens.

The unidentified man was show in a YouTube film last week grabbing the little fox by the neck and banging it against the ground many times.

Addressing the Saudi Wildlife Authority (SWA) during the film, the man said sarcastically: “My apology my dear Authority…we caught this fox eating my mother’s chickens and my son’s chicks.”

Sabq newspaper quoted SWA spokesman Mohammed Al Salama as saying the Authority had asked the police to arrest the man after watching the film, which was published by local newspapers before it was removed by YouTube network.

Asked what punishment awaits the fox killer, Salama said : “This is up to the specialized court…this man’s behaviour is horrible and contravenes our religion’s teachings which stress that we should treat animals kindly.”

The paper said the wanted man lives in the northern town of Rafha and quoted him as saying he did torture the fox but released it later.

“It attacked our chickens and pigeons many times and killed scores of them…it also smashed hundreds of eggs….this fox caused losses of more than SR5,000 (Dh5,000) to me…I just wanted to punish it for what it had done,” he said.
