Saudi school teachers and students waiting for the delayed books for the new academic years got a shock when they found that the books arrived in shisha tobacco boxes.

A picture published on social media showing vans carrying the tobacco boxes for delivery to schools immediately triggered sarcastic reaction by a well-known Islamic scholar, who said the boxes seem to be within an education strategy.

“Books for schools stuffed inside Muassel (tobacco) boxes. It seems they are part of a new strategy by the Ministry of Education,” Sheikh Adel Al Kalbani said.

The pictures were carried by 'Sada' Arabic language daily, which quoted activists as saying authorities should investigate this incident.
