A Connecticut woman has been charged with setting an apartment building fire that forced some parents to drop children out of windows to people outside. Ten people were hospitalized including three children, and nearly 60 were left homeless.

Hartford police charged 38-year-old Eladia Vazquez, of Manchester, with first-degree arson and other crimes related to the fire at the 42-unit, three-story building Thursday morning.

She was ordered detained on $750,000 bail during a court appearance Friday in Hartford.

Police say Vazquez got into an argument with someone in the building and set a fire outside their door.

Firefighters rescued a dozen people. Authorities said most of the people hospitalized were treated for smoke inhalation, and some suffered burns.

Vazquez’s lawyer said she didn’t intend to harm anyone or damage the building.
