2 boys, 13, assault girl in school bathroom

Two 13-year-old boys have been charged with sexually assaulting a classmate in a Rhode Island public school bathroom.

The Providence Journal reports the boys turned themselves in to police on Monday.

Police say the boys lured a 14-year-old girl into a third-floor boys bathroom at Gilbert Stuart Middle School in Providence on June 2 and then groped her. School administrators heard allegations of an assault and contacted police. The boys were suspended.

Both boys were arraigned on charges of first-degree sexual assault and are being held at the Rhode Island Training School. They are not being identified because they are juveniles.

Providence Public Schools spokeswoman Laura Hart says the school district takes any allegation of sexual abuse and misconduct very seriously and is cooperating with police.
