A 20-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after Baltimore police say he stabbed an officer after a domestic dispute inside a student apartment building.

Police say James Goss stabbed the officer several times in the face and upper body early Saturday morning. The officer was taken to a trauma center, where he was in serious but stable condition.

The stabbing occurred in the lobby of the Varsity Apartments, which houses University of Baltimore students. Police say a security officer called 911 after being threatened. Police say Goss and his girlfriend had argued over the keys to her apartment.

Police say Goss punched the woman in the face and placed her in a chokehold. A university spokesman says the victim is a student but Goss is not. Agencies

Cops on domestic disturbance call shoot man

Two deputies with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office in South Carolina have been placed on administrative leave after they shot and wounded a man during a domestic disturbance call.

Sheriff Anthony Dennis said the incident occurred Saturday. The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating.

Dennis said in a statement that the deputies spoke with 39-year-old Michael Dinkins after arriving at the house. Initial reports say Dinkins became aggressive with the deputies, who used their stun guns to try to subdue him. The stun guns didn't work, and Dennis said Dinkins attempted to take one of the deputies' weapons. During that struggle, both deputies fired at Dinkins, who is listed in stable condition at a Columbia hospital.

Dinkins faces charges of domestic violence, resisting arrest and assaulting a law enforcement officer.
