Crazy World: Man who gave infant STD gets 100 years

Published

US: An Ohio man convicted of child molesting a 6-month-old girl, infecting her with a sexually transmitted disease, has been sentenced to 100 years in prison.

The Star Press reports Delaware Circuit Judge Kimberly Dowling told 25-year-old Bryan Michael Strickler of Streetsboro, Ohio, during the sentencing Monday that his case represented “the worst of the worst” crimes, the state’s standard for imposition of a maximum sentence.

Public defender Sam Beasley had earlier called a probation officer’s recommendation of a maximum sentence “inexcusable.” Strickler had pleaded for leniency, saying he was not a bad person and he was sorry.

Strickler was convicted of child molesting and attempted child molesting in a bench trial last month.

US: Five children are in protective custody and their parents have been charged after neighbors found a 6-year-old boy locked out of his Kansas City home in freezing weather.

Police questioned 39-year-old Daniel Greenfield and 34-year-old Melanie Davis after neighbors heard the boy crying. Both were charged with five counts of child abuse or neglect and misdemeanor endangerment.

One neighbor says the boy told her his parents had put him out of the house, although the child told officers he fell asleep inside the family's car on a drive home and woke up alone.

Investigators said the parents told police they thought all the children were indoors, asleep.

The children range in age from 3 to 14. The parents did not have a listed phone, and did not have lawyers. (AP)
