A man who had sexually molested a five-month-old baby girl who was later found abandoned by the side of the railway tracks near Fort, was taken into custody by the Fort Police on Saturday, 22 June.
A woman who claimed she was the mother of the baby, was also arrested by the police. The suspect, who is her paramour, is a cobbler. When questioned by the police, the woman had said her baby had gone missing on June 21. "My baby was sleeping close to me. In the middle of the night, I woke up and found her missing, and I suspected that my paramour would have abducted her," the woman said.
The medical report revealed that the baby had been sexually abused. Police confirmed that both the mother and her paramour are drug addicts.
