'Heavily' drunk man rapes daughter-in-law

A 46-year-old man has been arrested by the Anamaduwa police for raping his 17-year-old daughter-in-law, a young married woman from Andigama, Buddhigama, ‘Lakbima’ reported.

The suspect had brought the daughter-in-law, who lives in a separate house after marriage to the son, to his house at Garayakgama area in the Anamaduwa police division, pretending that his 14-year-old daughter was staying alone at the house.

The police investigations revealed that the suspect had raped the son’s wife in that house after sending his daughter elsewhere and when the son had gone in search of his wife, he came to know of the incident.

The son along with his wife lodged a complaint against the father at the Anamaduwa police station.

The victim told the police that the suspect was heavily drunk when the incident occurred.

The woman was admitted to the Anamaduwa district hospital for medical examination and the police are due to produce the suspect before the Anamaduwa Magistrate.

Cricket coach sexually abuses two boys

A cricket coach has been remanded till November 21 by the Kandy Magistrate MA Wasantha Kumara for sexually abusing two boys aged 12 years each, students of an international school in Kandy, ‘Lakbima’ reported.

The two schoolboys were treated in a hospital in Kandy after the abuse.

Police investigations revealed that the suspect had carried out the sexual abuse having pretended that he was a cricket coach.

Further investigations would be carried out by the Children’s and Women’s Unit of the Kandy Police Headquarters.
