Man rapes 80-year-old woman

A man had been remanded till June 6 by Elpitiya Magistrate Asanka Bodaragama for raping a frail 80-year-old woman in Kahaduwa area, ‘Mawbima’ reported.

The suspect remanded is Thuduwage Nandasiri, 44, a resident of Thalawa area in Kahaduwa.

When her home people were away to see a religious festival, the suspect entered her home around 8.30pm and raped the victim.

The victim related her complaint to the police.

The victim is undergoing treatment at Elpitiya Base Hospital and police said the suspect had been arrested earlier for similar offenses.

Elpitiya police are investigating.

Astrologist rapes two girls

An astrologist had been arrested on Friday (20) by Hasalaka police for raping two girls, aged 16 and 10, in the pretext of conducting a ritual for the development of their educational activities, ‘Mawbima’ reported.

The victims’ father had accompanied the two daughters to the suspect’s office, where the suspect had inquired about their times of birth and had told the father to bring certain items needed to conduct a strong ritual.

The suspect had given the father a list containing goods of very difficult to find saying that the girls should remain in his office as their horoscopes needed to be investigated further.

After the father left the suspect’s office, the culprit raped the girls in his cabin.

Later, the father returned and several days after the ritual, the daughters related the story to the parents, who then lodged a police complaint.
