Colombo - In an incident reported from Wariyapola, a mother has eloped with her paramour, abandoning an 8-month-old baby and a 2-and-half-year old child, ‘Mawbima’ reports.
Hettipola police said the woman, a resident of Rathmale village in Pihimbiya, Kebellawa, eloped abandoning the children with their 66-year-old grandmother.
Police investigations revealed that the children did not have a legal father nor do they have any birth certificates.
Hettipola Magistrate RVNK Vitharana ordered the police to put the children under the care of Amila Children’s Home in Meegalewa.
Woman killed, set on fire
The man has been arrested for killing a woman and setting fire to her home at Pihimbiyagollewa in Wewelketiya, Medawachchiya, ‘Horu Gossip’ reported.
Having seen the victim’s house on fire around 7am on the day of the incident, the villagers flocked to the place and found the burned body of the woman.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the suspect had set fire to her house after killing the 40-year-old victim.
