Son kills father to save mom; wife left in forest

A son has been held for slaying his father at the Idamkissa village in Habaraduwa, Galle, ‘Riviera’ reported.

A woman had complained to the Habaraduwa police that her husband had died after falling near the house.

After initial investigations, the police had found the actual tale behind the incident.

The man, who came home intoxicated, attacked his wife calling for money frequently and having come to know of the incident, the son had come home and recounted his father not to harass the mother.

Nevertheless, the father continued to assault the mother without listening to the son, which angered him.
Later the son, who lost patience, had assaulted the father to death with firewood.

Habaraduwa police are conducting investigations.

Husband abandons wife in a forest after assaulting

A man, who in the guise of accompanying his wife to a relative’s house, has deserted her in a forest area at Abidiyagama in Maradankadawala, after severely beating her with a pole, ‘Mawbima’ reported.

According to Kekirawa police, the duo from the Sattambikulama area at Kalattewa in Mahintale, parents of a minor girl, has been earning their livelihood by engaging in agriculture.

In an earlier affair, the husband had attacked her on suspicion about his wife holding an extra-marital affair, which had been amicably settled after appearing before a reconciliation board.

However, the man had continued to suspect the wife and on the day of the incident (11), he had taken the wife along with the child in the pretense of visiting a relative.

Having entrusted the kid in a relative’s home, he had subsequently taken the wife to a forest area where he had escaped after severely beating and abandoning her.

A man, who was exiting the forest, having found out a moan, had rushed the woman to Anuradhapura hospital while the area people apprehended the man and handed over to the Kekirawa police.

Kekirawa Magistrate has ordered the suspect be remanded till 23 after the he confessed to the police.

Crime division of the Kekirawa police is conducting further investigations.
