Trump golf course in California vandalized

A group of environmental activists vandalized President Donald Trump's luxury ocean-front golf course in southern California, carving a message into the grass near the fifth hole, police said Monday.

The group, which calls itself an "anonymous environmental activist collective," sent The Washington Post a video showing four people scaling a fence at the Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, around 30 miles (50 kilometers) south of downtown Los Angeles.

The intruders are seen in the grainy 64-second video wearing dark clothing and using gardening tools to carve six-foot (two-meter) letters into the grass reading: "NO MORE TIGERS. NO MORE WOODS."

They sent a statement to the newspaper explaining the vandalism was a response to the Trump administration's "blatant disregard for the environment."

Lt. David Sprengel of the Lomita Sheriff's Station told AFP the vandalism had occurred around 8:30 am (1530 GMT) on Sunday.

The 18-hole course, ranked among the country's top 100 by Golf Magazine, is renowned for its spectacular views over the Pacific Ocean and has been used in several movies, including "50 First Dates" and "Horrible Bosses 2."

At a total cost of $264 million, it is the most expensive US golf course ever built, according to the World Golf online guide.

The club did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
