Woman impersonates man to woo teen girl

Colombo: A young woman impersonated as a man, befriended a teenage girl and even promised to marry her.

The 25-year-old woman from Katana was arrested by police after the 15-year-old girl’s parents filed a complaint, according to ‘Gossip C Lanka’.

It is reported that the suspect, Asanka Niroshani, behaved like a boy since childhood and even changed her name to Asanka to stay in a men’s hostel.

The hostel owner was quoted as saying that she was always in men’s clothes and none doubted her as she even helped in masonry work in Palugaswewa area.

The owner claims to have seen the teenage girl with the suspect at the hostel.

 Acting upon a complaint from the teen’s parents, the woman was arrested and produced before a magistrate. A medical examination has confirmed that she indeed is a woman.

Legal action will be initiated against her, the report added.
