The Federal Supreme Court ordered an Arab doctor based in the Northern Emirates to pay Dh200,000 in diya (blood money) to the relatives of an 11-year-old Sudanese boy after he was convicted of causing his death, press reports said on Monday.

The court found that the unnamed doctor had failed to diagnose the child’s illness and committed a medical error when he gave him an injection that caused his death.

Doctors at a government hospital tried to save the child, Hani, after the injection given by that doctor damaged his appendix and caused blood poisoning, 'Emarat Al Youm' newspaper said.

“The prosecution charged that doctor of causing the child’s death by mistake as he failed to make the correct diagnosis,” it said.
The court also fined the doctor Dh5,000 and ordered him to fast two months.
