Doctors rebuild man’s half skull with 3D tech

A Chinese farmer who lost part of his skull in an accident underwent a surgery and had it rebuilt with a 3D-printed titanium plant in a hospital.

According to a video on YouTube, the man fell from the 3rd floor of a building around 10 months ago. Half of skull was dented and his eyesight was also affected in the accident. He was also not able to talk properly.

“3D printing has made our work much easier. It can print out model as exactly as they are designed. Event complicated surgeries can be made easier,” the video said.

The Chinese underwent approximately three-and-a-half hour operation on August 28 and it was believed that the operation was successful.

The doctors developed a titanium mesh created by a 3D printer which was placed under his skin and attached to his skull. The Chinese skull normal and was expected to leave the hospital five days after the operation.

Asiaone reported that doctors believe that it would restore the original shape of his head.

Some surgeries using 3D printers have reportedly been performed previously by the doctors.
