Dubai Land Department (DLD) is on the brink of setting a Guinness World Record, it announced in a media statement today. The government organisation is in the process of creating the largest sticky notes mosaic, part of its aim to raise awareness of autism in the UAE, it said.

The total number of sticky notes needed for the artistic project to set Guinness World Records title is 300,000. Once finished, the mosaic will make up an image that includes the ‘Autism Awareness Ribbon’ to highlight the condition, as well as carry the initiative’s slogan: ‘Together for a Better Future.’

“We are extremely proud that our Together for a Better Future mosaic looks set to create a new world record, but we are even prouder that the initiative is helping to spread awareness of autism throughout the country,” said HE Sultan Butti Bin Mejren, Director General of Dubai Land Department.

“This is an important charity activity that comes within the framework of DLD’s ongoing commitment to raise community awareness about important issues and to educate individuals about their responsibilities to society," he added.

The Together for a Better Future mosaic is being constructed from 300 boards that have been distributed to schools, government departments, special needs centres, civic institutions, sports centres and malls throughout Dubai.

DLD has been encouraging people to become engaged with the initiative by posting their own personal notes on one of the boards, with the organisation explaining that not only will they have the satisfaction of being part of a world record, they will also be helping to show that Dubai cares for all its citizens.

“A major part of DLD’s corporate philosophy is to provide support to people in our society who are most in need,” said Majida Ali Rashid, Assistant Director General, DLD. “For this particular project, we decided to show the world the extent of our commitment by enabling members of the public to help create a unique statement. The mosaic has created such a buzz that it has promoted the important message of autism awareness to a global audience, as well as allowing individuals who participated in it to be part of a once-in-a-lifetime activity,” she added.

People across Dubai have been joining the Together for a Better Future initiative by placing their personalised Post-it sticky notes containing small messages expressing their feelings of hope for those who have autism on the boards. The written offerings will form part of the completed piece’s Autism Awareness Ribbon.
