Central Bank collects debit card statistics

The UAE Central Bank has started collecting statistics on purchases made by banks' customers through debit cards in the country or abroad.

"Due to the ongoing crisis situation in the financial sector, Central Bank would like to have statistics in respect of the amount of purchases made by your customers using debit cards, excluding cash withdrawals," the Central Bank said in a notice to all banks operating in the country.

It also asked banks to submit these statistics on monthly basis as banks should submit the reports by a deadline of the 10th of every month.

Banks should classify the statistics according to purchases inside the country, by both nationals and expatriates, as well as purchases of debit cards outside the country.
