Expansion plans for Gulftainer

Gulftainer has become the operator and manager of the two ports of Comoros following a joint venture agreement signed between Sharjah-based Gulftainer and Al Marwan in 2007.

Having just celebrated 30 years in the port industry, Gulftainer has said it has the ambition and resources to continue expanding by not only starting its first venture in the southern hemisphere, but also by developing the general cargo side of its port management business.

To take a closer look at Gulftainer's operations in the Comoros, which is located in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Eastern Africa, director and general manager of Gulftainer Peter Richards visited the island group this month.

During the visit Peter Richards met the Republic's President Sambi and Vice-President Nadhoim to thank them for the co-operation of the Comoros Government and to discuss the implementation of Gulftainer's contract for the management of Mutsamudu Port later this year.

Richards said: "With a lot of hard work, from both our staff and many organisations in the Comoros, we have managed to achieve a major turnaround in performance and efficiency in Moroni to the benefit of the company and the Comorian people. We hope to continue this process soon in Comoros' Mutsamudu port as well."
