Investments in industry up 8% in Sharjah

Industrial investments in Sharjah has grown eight per cent with the number of units rising to 1,210 in 2008 from 1,120 in 2007, according to a top official of a holding company.

Sheik Abdullah bin Fahid Al Shakrah, Chairman of Al Hanoo Holding and Emirates Industrial Cities Company said: "Recently, investors have been keen to invest in new areas. A lot of these investors have chosen the industrial sector, increasing the number of licences, industrial facilities, workers, and types of industrial facilities."

Statistics showed an increase in industrial activities by Dh249 million in Sharjah by the end of 2008. Industrial activities amount to a total of Dh4.288bn, with an annual growth of 6.2 per cent.

The annual number of workers in the industrial sector has increased by 3,940 to 77,564, compared to 73,624 in 2007.
