Five questions to... Sophie Mir

Inspired by a myriad of colours, patterns and fine craftsmanship Q Home Décor offers something unique to those looking for tasteful furniture and interiors all with a touch of chic. Sophie Mir is the design and decorations manager at the new Dubai store and has been responsible for putting together the concept. Having worked in luxury retailing before coming to the UAE in August last year, Mir describes her style as "Nordic contemporary design meets classic luxury decoration". The 26-year-old, hailing from Stockholm, Sweden loves mixing styles to create stunning home environments. Here she tells Emirates Business about the venture.

Describe the style of the store? It is a mix of classic, modern and traditional, with fine design and luxury fabrics and materials, yet it is also affordable.

As well as exquisite furniture we offer a collection of tumblers and stemware in fine Italian crystal, dinner sets, cutlery and tableware, and an array of candles, flowers, lamps, paintings and vases plus quality linen and bath accessories. We are a one-stop shop for all, at competitive prices.

How do you differ from what is already available here? We provide excellent customer service and advise on everything from the right bed to how a room should look. I believe service is so important because I want everyone to leave feeling good, we offer the same friendly approach to all regardless of how much they are spending. We are also a unique store and quality is very important to us.

How did you get started in the business? After graduating with a major in Art and Design from Stockholm University, I began working for leading Swedish interior and lifestyle magazines. I then joined Svenskt Tenn, a luxury furniture retailer before coming to Dubai last year and joining Q Home Décor. I am now responsible for managing private clients looking to furnish their homes in luxury style, as well as the day-to-day visual design and decoration of our three current stores.

How do you use your creative background to help customers looking for advice on home interiors? I try to find something personal to them and work with their tastes and needs. There has been somewhat of a trend to going back to the home recently and people are keen to spend money on it looking good. The home is a sanctuary and interiors should reflect that and if you're going to be in more then you need to be surrounded by things you like, and that is where I can give advice.
