The Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (Adwea) posted investment revenue of more than Dh45 billion in 2007.

Abdullah Saif Al Nuaimi, director of privatisation at Adwea, said after receiving the pioneer performance award, “the efforts of Sheikh Dhiyab bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman, had great impact on achievements made by the authority over the past few years, which culminated in the pioneer performance award. The award followed a number of other prizes received by Adwea on management level and execution of its distinguished privatisation programme”.

Al Nuaimi thanked Sheikh Dhiyab on behalf of the employees at Adwea for the award, which he described as “natural due to the continuous efforts to promote work at Adwea”.

The award was conferred to Adwea during the Abu Dhabi Economic Forum organised by the Economy and Business Group in recognition of its management and successful implementation of privatisation process.

Adwea is the first public institution to successfully implement the strategy of Abu Dhabi Government to privatise public sectors – a move that puts the utility under scrutiny of international corporations, which are racing to strike partnership agreements with it.

It has already attracted the attention of major United States, European and Asian companies. (Wam)
