Kuwaiti logistics company Agility has secured a transportation contract with the US army that could earn it $200 million (Dh736m) over the next 12 months.

Its defence and government services division has been awarded a third successive one-year contract under the US army's Heavy Lift VI programme.

Agility will continue to provide transportation services for military personnel and supplies. The extension was awarded by the US Army Sustainment Command and continues Agility's engagement for Heavy Lift VI until June 30, 2009.

The maximum value of the work that Agility is obliged to perform is $200m and the minimum is $20m.

The US army may also, at its discretion, ask Agility to undertake additional work if the maximum value of the contract is exceeded.

Agility, formerly PWC Logistics, is a global provider of end-to-end supply chain solutions with more than 32,000 employees in 550 offices located in more than 100 countries.

Agility, which has more than $6 billion in annual revenues, is listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange and is the Middle East's biggest logistics provider.

It offers personalised services and flexible supply chain solutions tailored to meet individual business needs, supported by a comprehensive network of warehousing facilities, transportation and freight management services.

Last month the US Defence Logistics Agency renewed a contract with Agility to provide logistics, supply and transport services to US troops in Iraq and Kuwait in a $9.3m deal.

Agility is trying to reduce its reliance on US Government work by expanding in emerging markets in Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe through acquisitions. In April it said it planned to increase its share capital by 25 per cent.
