Budget airlines to capture 50% market share

Low-cost carriers will capture a 50 per cent share of the international airline industry in the next two years with their cheaper point-to-point destination fares, according to an industry expert.

Shashank Nigam, Chief Executive and founder of SimpliFlying, an airline branding company operating from Singapore and New York, told Emirates Business that low-cost airlines will outnumber big carriers with their economical services and regional concentration strategies. "In two years, I would say low-cost airlines will capture at least a 50 per cent share of the airline industry worldwide," he said.

Nigam said he expected low-cost airlines, such as Air Arabia, playing an increasingly major industry role.
