Dubai Airport Free Zone (Dafza) has recorded a 42 per cent growth in the first quarter of this year, with regards to office area occupied by multinational companies that eye Dubai as the launch pad for their operations, a senior Dafza official said.

Mohammed Ali Suwailem, Dafza's sales director, said yesterday that the growth could be attributed to the increasing demand by international firms and foreign investors for high quality facilities to run their business in a suitable commercial ambience.

"The first quarter of 2008 has proved to be a fruitful period with many European, American and Asian companies seeking to set up business operations to be closer to Asian, African and Gulf markets," said Suwailem.

"Over the last 12 years we managed to put up an excellent infrastructure that meet the actual needs for our foreign clients and understand their goals and business objectives," he added.

The companies that have registered with Dafza in the last three years include Bulgarian Global Operations and Star Cruise Management.

Dafza, according to Suwailem, is currently developing the new three-phase expansion to accommodate hundreds of new companies by the end of the year.
