DHL spearheads new 'day-certain' delivery service in Middle East

Delivery and logistics company DHL Express has launched a new service that offers customers a day-certain, business-to-business, cost-effective solution for heavier shipments within the Middle East.

With DHL Economy Select, customers can enjoy the same level of reliability for less urgent shipments that they enjoy with DHL's Express Worldwide service. The service offers a door-to-door delivery supported by online track and trace, providing full shipment visibility to each customer, all backed by DHL's certified Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) procedures, to ensure the highest levels of security.

The new service leverages the company's extensive road and air network, as well as DHL's in-house customs clearance capabilities. Businesses from a diverse range of market sectors such as electrical, engineering, consumer, automotive and oil and gas, now have a door-to-door service for moving heavier and less urgent shipments across the GCC, Levant and Egypt.

"The DHL Express network is becoming a truly interlinked, multi-modal transportation network across the Middle East, bringing the essence of express to traditional supply chain logistics," said Dirk Van Doorn, Business and Product Development Manager, Middle East, North Africa and Turkey.

"We are committed to fulfilling customers' evolving requirements and have experienced a growing demand for the transport of heavier shipments to slower timelines, particularly from the UAE to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Egypt.

"Through our express logistics and spare parts centres, together with the air and road transport network, we provide a one-stop solution in express logistics. By continually introducing new services such as DHL Economy Select, which are supported by investments in infrastructure, increased network coverage and technology, we broaden DHL's strategic footprint and service offering across the region.

"Therefore we offer those customers that transport heavy goods, such as machinery, electrical equipment, and motor vehicle parts, a hassle-free solution that allows them to focus on their core business." With the inclusion of DHL Economy Select, DHL's portfolio of services is adding demonstrable value to leading distributors of network infrastructure products such as cabling and security solutions. DHL Economy Select offers upward weight flexibility, but ensures cost-effectiveness and a reliable delivery time.

As the result of an increased demand for cross-Middle East shipping, DHL has experienced a nearly 40 per cent increase in the volume of customer shipments traveling via its road network, since 2007. This volume increase, with the bulk of shipments largely originating from the UAE, has been supported by a major investment in vehicles.

With an additional 50 new trucks – bringing the company's fleet to over 110 vehicles in DHL's cross-regional road network – the investment has enhanced the overall service and capacity across the Middle East.
