Emirates has revised its fares for tickets issued in Middle East and GCC markets to over 20 cities, reflecting the recent softening of fuel prices.
In all, lower fares are being implemented on more than 30 flights to destinations in Europe, Far East and the Middle East – including popular cities such as Manila, Dhaka, Jakarta, London Gatwick, China, said a press statement.
Dubai travellers will see Emirates fares to Cairo, Beirut, Damascus, Amman reduce by four per cent. Travellers in the Middle East will also see lower fares on Emirates flights to points in the GCC, said the statement.
Emirates Business last week reported that the airline was in the process of revising its pricing strategy.
"I remain optimistic that we would be able to review our prices in the hope that oil will stay at levels that allows us to get back into business again," Emirates President Tim Clark had told the newspaper.
The airline had increased its ticket prices – for the fourth time this year – with fares for the UAE market going up by 10 per cent for economy class and five per cent for first and business classes.
The revision of some of fares was made due to the recent lowering of fuel prices, according to Adnan Kazim, Emirates' Senior Vice President Commercial Operations – Gulf, Middle East and Iran.
"Although fuel prices have fallen gradually in recent weeks, it is still some 60 per cent above the average price of $73 per barrel in 2007. High fuel prices continue to be a big challenge for Emirates, and we are monitoring the situation closely," he added.
Emirates operates flights to 101 cities across six continents. In the Middle East and GCC, it operates an extensive network covering 15 cities with over 200 flights weekly.
