Emirates Post and China Post have signed an agreement to improve relations between them.
The deal focuses on international electronic remittances, improvements to the express mail service, encouraging wider use of the Dubai Transit Mail Hub and marketing the international postal service.
An agreement on enhanced co-operation in these fields was signed during a visit by a delegation led by Abdulla Al Daboos, President of Emirates Post Group, to China Post's headquarters in Beijing.
The trip followed a visit by a China Post delegation to Emirates Post in April during which both sides decided to initiate moves to enhance bilateral business relations.
"China is one of the UAE's leading trade partners and the Chinese community in the UAE has been growing so we need to offer them better postal and remittance services," said Al Daboos. This agreement has laid the foundations for achieving these goals. Following our visit to China, we now have a better understanding of the Chinese market and the advancements made in all sectors, especially postal services."
The agreement requires the two parties to provide an international electronic remittance service through the Universal Postal Union's International Financial System. Both sides will undertake joint promotion and marketing activities for the service, which will be launched at the end of October 2008.
China Post will consider using the Dubai Mail Transit Hub for mail items dispatched from China to the Middle East and Europe.
Both parties will negotiate with airlines to secure better rates.
The partners have agreed to raise the express mail service weight limit for a single item to 40kg.
And they will work together to launch time-specific services between the two countries and market customer-oriented postal services in both countries.
The Emirates Post delegation visited a number of China Post centres, including the world's largest sorting centre in Shanghai.
