First flight lands at Al Maktoum airport

The Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International, the world's largest airport, saw its first landing yesterday as Emirates Boeing 777 Freighter aircraft touched base coming from Hong Kong. The airport's first phase is set to officially open on June 27 with cargo operations, followed by passenger operation in March next year.

Designed to have a capacity of more than 12 million tonnes of cargo and 160 million passengers each year, the airport will feature a single A380 compatible runway, a cargo terminal building and a road link to Jebel Ali port.
