Dubai’s first budget airline, flydubai, has announced its first service will take off in June, with one-way fares as low as Dh250 including taxes.
The Emirates offshoot, which will start with flights to Beirut and Amman, opened its call centre and website on Monday.
Its first two aircraft will be delivered by the end of May, with another two operating by the end of the year. Flydubai had ordered 54 Boeing 737 aircraft in November, in a deal worth about $4 billion.
The carrier will operate from Terminal 2 at Dubai International Airport.
Other routes are likely to include other destinations in the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent, north and east Africa and Europe.
The airline’s COO Kenneth Gile recently told Emirates Business it would use a fuel hedging strategy to maintain the lowest fares in the industry.
