SriLankan Airlines plans to reintroduce fuel surcharges effective today in order to help cover the cost of rising fuel prices, according to a report in Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation's publication IndiaAviation.
The carrier will increase fares by $90 on Middle East and other international routes, by $50 per sector on Southeast Asia routes and $160 on US and Canada routes, said the report.
SriLankan Airline's fuel costs currently account for 30 per cent of the carrier's costs, above what the carrier had previously budgeted. To boost revenue and cut losses, the carrier plans to enhance its ancillary offerings and ameliorate the impact of fuel by renegotiating or terminating its existing contracts.
