GCAA clears Sharjah airport in Azza Air crash

The preliminary report by the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) on the accident involving the B707 cargo aircraft on October 21 has cleared Sharjah International Airport infrastructure and operations, the GCAA said.

"Preliminary investigation did not indicate any concerns with Sharjah International Airport infrastructure and operations that could contribute towards the accident,'' said a GCAA statement.

The Sudanese cargo plane took off from Sharjah Airport for Khartoom and during the initial climb a part of the airframe located around the engine separated and fell on the runway.

Just 20 seconds into the flight, the cargo aircraft crashed at about 1.2 kilometres from the end of the runway 12 of Sharjah Airport, killing all the six crew members.
