Höegh adds Galveston to US-Middle East service

Höegh Autoliners has added Galveston in Texas as a load port for its United States-Middle East Service.

Vessels will call at Galveston twice a month with port calls in the Middle East including Abu Dhabi, Aqaba, Bahrain, Beirut, Dammam, Doha, Jebel Ali, Jeddah, Kuwait, Muscat, Iraq and Tripoli, depending on cargo requirements.

The first vessel to accept outbound cargo will be the Höegh Trooper, scheduled to call at Galveston on February 28. Ports America will be the terminal operator for Höegh Autoliners.

Höegh Autoliners is a privately owned shipping company with two owners: Leif Höegh & Co (62.5 per cent) and AP Moller-Maersk A/S (37.5 per cent).

The company is a leading global provider of transporation and logistics solutions in the Ro/Ro segment, offering a broad range of services to customers throughout the world.

It operates about 67 Pure Car and Truck Carriers in global trade systems which are managed from a worldwide network of 30 offices.

Its regional and global customers include global manufacturers of new cars, heavy machinery and rolling goods. In 2007, Höegh Autoliners carried about 1.9 million car equivalent units and made almost 3,000 port calls.

The company is looking to increase its presence in the Middle East.
