Saudi's 23 airportsget SR2.5bn boost

Saudi Arabia is spending SR 2.5 billion (Dh2.45bn) to expand its airports, the state's Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported yesterday. "These projects include the development, building and expansion of 23 airports locally, that will serve around nine million travellers annually," SPA stated.

The projects include the construction of a new SR20m airport in Taif, located on the Western mountains as well as an SR300m expansion of the Najran airport in the south to be completed next year.

Saudi Arabia, the largest Arab economy, boosted its spending on infrastructure, education and healthcare last year and has vowed to spend more than $400bn (Dh1.47trillion) on plans to diversify the economy, upgrade infrastructure and generate more jobs.
