The Consultative Council of Sharjah (CCS) has called upon the emirate's authority in charge of transport – Sharjah Transport – to look at all available methods to develop public transport, including metro and tram projects.

In a meeting held last week and presided over by Saif Saeed bin Saed Al Suwaidi, CCS's Chairman, the council asked that land across Sharjah be allocated for the construction of modern bus stops and terminals.

The CCS also recommended that marine transport be considered part of the public transport services and the powers of Sharjah Transport be expanded through legislation.

It also called for procedures related to settling legal cases of motorists and the issuing of driving licenses to be streamlined.

The CCS called on Sharjah Transport to develop a media and marketing plan to reflect its vision, taking into consideration the diverse nationalities, languages, education and cultural levels among the residents of Sharjah. Sharjah Transport was also asked to to include the vehicle reservation service on its website.
