SriLankan Cargo gets airconditioned facility

SriLankan Cargo yesterday said it has added an air-conditioned storage area to its facilities at Colombo's Bandaranaike International Airport.

The new facility at the BIA Cargo Centre has a temperature range of 15 to 25 degrees celsius, and is ideal for temperature-sensitive items that should not be placed in traditional cold rooms where the temperature is below freezing, the company said.

"The new facility has enhanced our capabilities in handling sensitive cargo. It has already proven to be popular among our customers. We have a high level of demand for handling of sensitive items such as pharmaceuticals, which need to be stored at a particular temperature," it said in a statement. The BIA Cargo Centre already has facilities such as freezer rooms (zero to minus 30 degree celsius) and cool rooms (zero to 10 degree celsius).

"Customers with perishable or temperature-sensitive items of cargo are advised to instruct their agent or supplier at the point of origin to indicate the required storage temperature range in the airway bill," SriLankan Cargo said.
