UK to buy safe vehicles to protect troops
The United Kingdom Ministry of Defence is to buy 600 new high-tech vehicles to help protect British troops from bomb attacks in Afghanistan, according to a report.
So far 120 British personnel have been killed in Afghanistan since the Taliban were toppled in 2001, with many the victims of roadside bombs. The News of the World said the ministry had secured £500 million (Dh3.38 billion) from the treasury to buy the new vehicles following pressure from the families of dead soldiers.
