All infrastructure projects being implemented by the Abu Dhabi Municipality, especially the Dh5 billion Al Salam Road development project, are going on and have not stopped due to international financial crisis, the head of the capital's civic body has said.

"All our projects are going on according to schedule, including the Al Salam Road project, which has been accelerated to end traffic congestion in Abu Dhabi. We endeavour to complete all our giant projects on time, even though Abu Dhabi is already characterised by unprecedented infrastructure in the Gulf and Arab regions," said Juma Al Junaibi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Municipality.

"The challenges that future capitals can face include infrastructure, land transport networks, environmental protection and diversification. Abu Dhabi has taken big steps in all these fields and the results will appear over the next few years.

"The Abu Dhabi Government is working hard to make the emirate one of the best places in the world. It has a strong and clear strategy of programmes up to the year 2030. It is also concentrating on the development of human resources. All signs confirm that the government's plan, which depends on economic diversification, is heading in the right direction.

"The global financial crisis proved Abu Dhabi's economic approach to be correct, as the emirate has not been impacted by the crisis like other countries.

"We receive continuous support from the emirate's leadership. We also co-ordinate with all government and private institutions to implement the emirate's strategic plan. There is no contradiction in the plans of the various bodies of the emirate and their work is constantly monitored and followed up by the leadership, especially General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces," Al Junaibi said.
