Drake & Scull awarded SR500m MEP contract for Lamar Towers

Saudi Drake & Scull has been awarded the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contract for Lamar Towers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, worth more than SR500 million (Dh490m).

On June 10, Arabtec Holding announced that it had been appointed as the main contractor for Lamar Towers. The Arabtec contract alone is worth SR2 billion.

A senior official from the project's developer, Cayan Investment and Development in Saudi Arabia, yesterday told Emirates Business that the foundation and piling work on the project is already complete and work on the main construction would start soon. "The enabling work started in mid-2007. The piling and foundation contract was awarded to Kasktas Arabia, a Turkey-based contractor. Following the completion of the foundation work we have started work on the main towers," he added.

Arabtec, has been granted a 36-month contract for completion of the work.

Ahmed Alhatti, Chairman of Cayan Investment and Development, said: "It is a pleasure to work closely with Arabtec, which has been associated with Cayan for several projects in Dubai. Appointing leading firms such as Arabtec and Drake & Scull reflect our resolve to offer credibility and transparency to our customers and construct a one-of-its-kind development in Jeddah."

The Lamar Towers project is spread across 33,000 square metres, which includes two residential towers. The first tower is 68-storeys high and the second has 60 storeys that will offer views of the Red Sea. The project also has a 10-storey office building, malls, sports club, and a spa dedicated to owners of the residential units. It will also include an eight-level car park. Details of the construction of Lamar Towers – located on the Jeddah Corniche – were showcased during the Cityscape exhibition held earlier last week in Jeddah.
