Dubai Maritime City one year ahead of schedule

Dubai Maritime City has announced construction on the project – currently in the third and final construction phase – is a year ahead of schedule. The world's first purpose-built maritime centre has been designed to address the requirements of the global maritime community through its integrated facilities, infrastructure, services and regulations.

When completed, Dubai Maritime City will be a mixed-use development for the maritime industry, comprising industrial, commercial, residential and leisure facilities housed on a man-made peninsula between Port Rashid and Dubai Dry Docks. "More than 100 years after establishing itself as one of Middle East and North Africa region's leading maritime trade destinations, Dubai is embarking on a new wave that will see it become home to the world's largest maritime community," said Nawfal Al Jourani, chief marketing officer, Dubai Maritime City.

On completion, Dubai Maritime City will incorporate six clusters spread across a 227-hectare man-made peninsula, which include: the Harbour Offices, Harbour Residences, Maritime Centre, Marina District, Dubai Maritime City Campus and the Industrial Quarter.

The complex will also include the UAE's first National Maritime Museum, the Gulf region's largest ship lift for ship maintenance and repair and a boat licensing facility.

It is also expected that Dubai Maritime City will be able to accommodate a large percentage of the 30,000 to 40,000 boats and yachts predicted to be moored in Dubai within the next five years.

"With more than half the warehouses and workshops operational, the 3,000 tonne ship lift ready and the larger 6,000 tonne ship lift standing at more than 70 per cent completion, investors can now clearly see the vision behind Dubai Maritime City. Moreover, the project offers investors other incentives such as free-zone benefits, responsive government support, the independence as a regulatory authority, a tax-free business environment and an effective port structure," Al Jourani added.

As a peninsula development, Dubai Maritime City can take advantage of the benefits of open sea access for the industrial community, while offering sea views to residents and office buildings.
