A construction contract for a resort to be built on the Dead Sea in Jordan has been awarded to the Engineering Enterprises Company (EEC).
The Samarah Dead Sea Resort is being developed by Emaar International Jordan. The contract was awarded by the Dead Sea Touristic and Real Estate Company, which was set up by Emaar Properties and a group of regional and Jordanian investors.
EEC, a Jordanian company, will undertake the development of three buildings in Rift Living, a section of the resort.
The contract was signed by Tarik Awad, Vice-Chairman of the Dead Sea Touristic and Real Estate Investment Company, and Elie Banayan, General Manager of EEC.
Rift Living will consist of nine low-rise buildings with a clubhouse and other amenities and a retail village. It will have residential, leisure and retail facilities and will be built close to the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Centre.
"Samarah Dead Sea Resort is bringing a new lifestyle choice to Jordan and has been carefully conceptualised to integrate itself as a socio-economic tool for the region's development. "By offering hospitality and leisure projects, homes and a vibrant retail environment the resort will significantly contribute to the tourism appeal of the Dead Sea.
"In developing the resort, which has been designed by international and local consultants, we are keen on partnering with Jordanian companies. EEC, with proven expertise in undertaking landmark projects, will bring in international best practices for the timely execution of the project."
Banayan said: "Samarah Dead Sea Resort is the first-of-its-kind master-planned community in Jordan and we will employ the most modern construction techniques to ensure that the project is completed on schedule and to the highest international standards.
"We will focus on sustainable development measures in line with the overall development ethos of the resort to create an environment-friendly community."
