Enpark fixes solar tracker at Diac

The Energy and Environment Park (Enpark), a comprehensive eco-friendly community, and Dubai International Academic City (Diac), have announced the installation of a pioneering 5kW solar tracker at Diac. Both are members of Tecom Investments.

Enpark's latest initiative follows its early success in installing a solar lamp at Dubai Outsource Zone and Dubai Media City.

Donated by the founders of Switchpower, a team of renewable energy experts from Sweden, the solar tracker powers 129 lamps, which can save approximately six tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. It can function for 10 hours per day supplying 2.9kW of total load connected.

The system is estimated to generate 13,825KWh of electrical energy annually.

The installation of the solar tracker at DIAC takes forward Tecom Investments' aggressive sustainability agenda and complements the knowledge cluster's achievement of obtaining the Leed Silver certification in 2009.

Dr Ayoub Kazim, Executive Director for Dubai International Academic City, said: "We went through the process of obtaining Leed certification for our Phase-3 campus last year and have noticed a remarkable difference in the overall atmosphere of working in a energy and water efficient building. That was one way for us to educate the community on the benefits of being environmentally conscious.

The Tecom management office was recently benchmarked by the US Green Building Council as the first Leed Platinum Commercial Interior in the region.
