Two workshops were held to discuss the latest infrastructure developments of the Al Nujoom Islands project in Sharjah by the developer Al Hanoo Holding.

The workshops were conducted jointly with Halcrow International and Emcor Services, said the developer of the project on the Arabian Gulf in Hamriya area.

The workshops came after completion of the digging of waterways in the project, which converted three kilometres of the Hamriya coast to land in between the islands, with a 33 km waterfront and ports to hold 500 vessels of a variety of sizes.

Sheikh Abdullah Al Shakrah, Al Hanoo Holding's Chairman, said: "The workshops coincide with the initiating of phase two of the project, which includes infrastructure, as well as phase one of the construction."

Halcrow supervised the main designs of the project commissioned by Hanoo.

Al Shakrah said: "The cost of Al Nujoom Islands' infrastructure is estimated to be Dh1.2 billion, including bridges, roads and pavements, installation of power lines and water services.

"The area for construction is only 40 per cent of the total project area, while water and vegetation cover the remaining 60 per cent."

The project consists of 13 sections. The first three sections are built on the mainland, while the other 10 are islands separated by canals that have been designed according to the highest standards for water circulation, which depends on the tidal ebb and flow without causing any harm to surrounding environment.

Founded in 1972 in Saudi Arabia, Al Hanoo Holding Company is one of the leading real estate developers in the Middle East. It has projects in Saudi Arabia as well as other GCC countries.

The Al Nujoom Islands project covers 60 million sqm by the sea and comprises a five-star hotel, residential and commercial towers, villas and townhouses.
