The canals within the Al Nujoom Islands project circulate water within nine days against the global average of 12 days, said the chairman of Al Hanoo Holdings yesterday. Water flow through the canal marked the beginning of phase two of the project said the developer.

Sheikh Abdullah Al Shakrah, Chairman of Al Hanoo Holding, developer of Al Nujoom Islands project, said: "These water canals were made with the highest international standards to ensure water circulation inside the canals is done according to ebb and flow movements to form water passages and deflation areas without causing any harm to the surrounding nature. Thus, water circulates periodically within nine days, thus making Al Nujoom Islands City the first to accomplish this feat on both the local and international levels."

The canals outline the 10 islands to form the main views. The project covers 60 million square feet, with its canals, gardens, parks and buildings.

Al Nujoom Islands canals has added large coastal space to the north eastern coast of Sharjah, doubling the three kilometres, which started near Al Hamriyah area, to more than 10 times in area. It extends the coast-front to 35km by way of canal extension deep into the land. The extended coast-front, together with green areas, forms 60 per cent of the project.

The project is valued at Dh18 billion and consists of 13 sections. The first three are represented by the main grounds for the project alongside 10 islands.

Al Hanoo Holding Company was founded in Saudi Arabia in 1972.
