Welsh industrial and security door manufacturer Rhino Doors has entered into an estimated Dh6 million contract with the Central Bank of Kuwait to provide secure doors for the bank's new headquarters, Emirates Business has learnt.
The company's representative in Kuwait, International Connections, said the deal had been finalised and manufacturing was expected to begin in January 2010.
"We've been working for a long time on this project with CBK. We have now finalised the deal and are here in Dubai to get information from Rhino Doors for the final designs so they can manufacture the doors," said Jamal Sleeq, Managing Director, International Connections.
The order, which marks the company's first foray into Kuwait, is for 10 doors of different designs and specifications.
"This is a big order for a very specialised product. Very few companies manufacture such doors worldwide. CBK was very careful of choosing the manufacturers and Rhino was specified," said Sleeq.
Talks for two other orders that total six doors for different companies have also reached an advanced stage and should materialise soon.
"The CBK order is the first order for Rhino in Kuwait. We are looking forward to more projects and are presently in talks for two more projects of four doors and two doors. Each door costs about £50,000 (Dh303,500), so these are important orders," he said.
Rhino Doors is now providing information on sizes of crucial components such as the control panel for each door to help CBK reach their final designs. "These doors link to other security systems so such details are crucial. The designs should be completed soon and we expect to deliver the doors to CBK by March or April," said Sleeq.
