RTA campaign to help workers beat the heat

The Roads and Transport Authority has taken an initiative towards educating and helping workers beat the blazing summer heat.
RTA launched the campaign in co-ordination with the consultants and contractors of the Dubai Metro Project. It is aimed at educating Dubai Metro manpower on the best means to beat summer heat through adopting proper health practices and enlightening them on the risks resulting from heat strain.
While addressing a gathering of workers at one of the Dubai Metro sites, Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of RTA, paid tribute to the efforts of workers in helping deliver the project, which will be a landmark in Dubai and a remarkable addition to the glittering array of pioneer projects in the emirate.
Al Tayer was accompanied by Essa Abdullah Al Ghurair, Vice-President of ETA Star Holding; Abdul Majeed Al Khaja, CEO of Rail Agency, and several departmental directors and key executives of the project contractor Dubai Rapid Link. "I thank you for your dedication and a good job done in helping deliver the project on the preset time. RTA commends your work for extended hours; particularly during daytime under soaring temperatures, and will always remain keen on providing a healthy environment for workers at all sites," he said.
Al Tayer distributed water bottles to workers at Rashidiya Station as part of the campaign.
The campaign covers several work sites of the Metro project, comprising more than 10,000 workers. Workers received more than 12,000 water bottles supplied by, one of the campaign sponsors.
The campaign will run for a week and Rail Agency employees will take part in a number of activities including distribution of water bottles, refreshments and dehydration salts among workers at various Dubai Metro construction sites.
The campaign highlights RTA's commitment towards implementing health and occupational safety locally as well as globally through educating manpower about the
injuries and risks resulting from heat strain.
The campaign will also include continuous site inspection visits and publication of educative leaflets.
The RTA will run this campaign across all affiliated agencies. It will print and distribute posters and co-ordinate with media in transmitting awareness about the risks of enduring summer heat.
